popey<p>A Bitcoin investor was recently scammed out of 9 Bitcoin (worth around $490K) in a fake “Exodus wallet” desktop application for Linux, published in the Canonical Snap Store. This isn’t the first time; if nothing changes, it likely won’t be the last.</p><p>This is a rather long blog post to accompany <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://ubuntu.social/@linuxmatters" class="u-url mention">@<span>linuxmatters</span></a></span> episode 23.</p><p><a href="https://popey.com/blog/2024/02/exodus-bitcoin-wallet-490k-swindle/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">popey.com/blog/2024/02/exodus-</span><span class="invisible">bitcoin-wallet-490k-swindle/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://ubuntu.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://ubuntu.social/tags/ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ubuntu</span></a> <a href="https://ubuntu.social/tags/snapcraft" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>snapcraft</span></a></p>

Merlijn Sebrechts<p>At the <a href="https://ubuntu.social/tags/UbuntuSummit2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UbuntuSummit2023</span></a>, I gave a talk about bringing Windows applications to Linux app stores, using <a href="https://ubuntu.social/tags/wine" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>wine</span></a> and <a href="https://ubuntu.social/tags/snapcraft" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>snapcraft</span></a></p><p>The recording is now available!</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Huehkbs8W9U" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=Huehkbs8W9</span><span class="invisible">U</span></a></p>
popey<p>Not everything should be packaged as a snap. Some things aren&#39;t (currently or ever) suitable. So, I started a (wiki) page on the <a href="https://ubuntu.social/tags/snapcraft" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>snapcraft</span></a> forum to try to outline what types of applications are appropriate and what might not be. Contributions and thoughts are welcome. (&quot;Nothing should be a snap&quot; will get you a block)</p><p><a href="https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/snapcraft-suitability/37946?u=popey" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">forum.snapcraft.io/t/snapcraft</span><span class="invisible">-suitability/37946?u=popey</span></a></p>
Till Kamppeter<p>Want to learn snapping (packaging applications in <a href="https://ubuntu.social/tags/Snap" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Snap</span></a> format with <a href="https://ubuntu.social/tags/snapcraft" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>snapcraft</span></a>)?</p><p>And you were not so lucky to attend a conference where our Snap workshop(s) have taken place?</p><p>Or you were missing a Snap workshop for beginners on the <a href="https://ubuntu.social/tags/UbuntuSummit" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UbuntuSummit</span></a> <a href="https://ubuntu.social/tags/UbuntuSummit2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UbuntuSummit2023</span></a>? I submitted it there but it did not get accepted.</p><p>I have actually given the workshop in the week after, during Canonical&#39;s internal Engineering Sprint. So for those who want to attend it, here we go: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNG8m9hesEU" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=jNG8m9hesE</span><span class="invisible">U</span></a></p>
