:skull360: We have now successfully upgraded to v4.4.0-alpha.4+mementomods-2025-03-14 @mementomorisocial. This upgrade contains latest and newest version, including the security updates.

The branch is now synced and up-to-date and 66 changes ahead the last version which was v4.4.0-alpha.3+mementomods-2025-03-04.

We have enabled the new feature FETCH_REPLIES_ENABLED=true. This should greatly improve the fetching of new replies.

As usual, please tell me or our other admins about any strange things you may encounter with this Mastodon version. We're running bleeding edge after all.

I hope you enjoy your time here. Feel free to send me a message if you have anything in mind. :bunhdheart:

Trying to browse the #MastoAdmin hashtag because there was a new upgrade to see if anyone is having any issue with the upgrade or if it broke anything. Can't because everyone is using it to announce they upgraded. We need a new update tag, something like #mastoupdate for that

This is something various people have proposed in the past, esp a few months ago when there were several upgrades in a row after one upgrade broke systems.

It's hard to find out if admins are having problems with useless blabber. It's almost as bad as people who use the tag to talk to their end users.

Hi #Admins 👋,

Can you give me quotes that explain your fight against #AIScraping? I'm looking for (verbal) images, metaphors, comparisons, etc. that explain to non-techies what's going on. (efforts, goals, resources...)

I intend to publish your quotes in a text on @campact 's blog¹ (DE, German NGO).

The quotes should make your work🙏 visible in a generally understandable way

Several people have asked me whether this makes FediFetcher obsolete. I thought I'd put out a more public response to this question:

Unfortunately I don't think I can retire FediFetcher just yet, as it still has some utility:

Firstly, FediFetcher can fetch context proactively without having to expand posts. (Eg one of my favourite features of FediFetcher is that it pro-actively pulls in replies to posts in my home timeline. I personally wouldn't really want to miss out on this.)

Secondly, FediFetcher can also backfill profiles - something that Mastodon is still unable to do, and, as far as I can tell, has no intention of implementing.

Thirdly, it'll likely still be a while until these changes are available in any released versions, and likely even longer until 3rd party apps have support for it.

I do hope it’s the beginning of the end of FediFetcher, but imo we are not there just yet!

Obviously other users of FediFetcher may have different opinions, and if - once this is released - you personally are happy with Mastodon's built in ‘on demand' context fetch, you should stop using FediFetcher to relieve pressure from your home instance.
