So I gotta say doing the whole 100days thing has actually given me some pretty good momentum that I was missing previously.. Even if some days it's just look at stuff, run updates, and generally kick tires on things it adds up.
So yeah shout-out to #100daysofhomelab.
I've been keeping a log.. definitely no reason for anybody to look at it but just sharing for inspiration.. yay yah I'm only 10 days in.

#selfhosted
Successfully updated my instance’s host from Ubuntu 22.04 LTS to 24.04 LTS.
Ran into a dependency issue after reboot, but ‘bundle install —force’ fixed it.
All is well.
Well, this is very exciting... a Manyfold 3d viewer right in your timeline!
Last night I made great progress with my Secret Personal Project. I can't wait to tell you all about it on an upcoming @linuxmatters episode! #selfhosted
Folks who run their own #selfhosted #git services: tell me about how your #backups work. #selfhosting #git #gitolite #forgejo #gitea #gogs
Does anyone else know of a good self hosted ebook library server that can be used with native multi-platform reading app support and sync reading progress?
I really don't want to read books from a web app, I want to be able to read while offline whether on my iPhone, iPad or my Boox e-reader (Android)
I love the way BookFusion works, but I don't want to rely on their cloud storage (or any company's cloud storage for that matter)

I see why people hate on Ansible a bit. It has it's nuances, the community modules are helpful but lack any real documentation when shit goes wrong. You can do the same thing 48 different ways.. Still great and easy, but I can understand why NixOS exists hahah
interesting, so pihole version 6 has gotten rid of lighttpd webserver? so my notes from last time setting things up are now useless
An SSD failed in my media server today. In case you are curious this is how I keep track of what I did, when, and why to my fleet of machines.
The backlinking in Obsidian is crucial for this format to work.
@coldclimate I'm using a low power mini-ITX mobo based on an Alder Lake-N CPU for my #selfhosted #nas. You can chuck it in any small (or large) form factor PC case.
I've documented it there: https://gagniard.org/gilles/posts/2025/02/building-a-n305-based-nas/
#selfhosted folks - what hardware are you running? I currently use an 8 year old laptop with a 2TB external USB drive hanging out the back, running Ubuntu.
It's ok, but it's a bit slow, and its...unprofessional?
I'm looking to spend less than £400 and looking for a small factor quiet machine with plenty of storage to serve media and Immach.
Today, I continue my crimes against humanity by proceeding with turning my old phone into a Linux server.
The software runs great after some configuration. I’ve now installed a CalDAV server (Baïkal) alongside Sharkey, both running in Docker.
My heatsinks for Raspberry Pi-sized devices arrived today! I’m still waiting for my fans before I can start designing the new 3D-printed case. I also need to figure out how to power the fans alongside the phone.
Here’s what it looks like with the heatsinks attached—ignore the black stuff on the left, it’s copper underneath, so it works really well. #exanimus #phone #arm #linux #docker #sharkey #selfhosted #caldav #baical #homeserver #arm #exanimus #phone #arm #linux #docker #sharkey #selfhosted #caldav #baical #homeserver #arm
I have a very strange issue with my VPS.
I am setting up wazuh for my personal use, and while the software seems to run just great, I'm unable to connect agents to it.
1. Wazuh does bind the ports (1514, 1515) properly. At least, netstat tells me to.
2. I can tcpdump on these ports, and see activity on 1515 (agent registration port).
3. The SYN packets never get a response from my VPS. It's like Wazuh is binding the ports, but isn't getting the packets or responding to them.
I'm completely out of ideas. The Wazuh community Discord has been unhelpful, so far.
I suspect ghosts.
Any help?

@rolle That's a fantastic news for single-user instances #selfhosted !
#substitoot is pretty much mandatory currently to engage with the fediverse, as otherwise I'm missing like 99% of a conversation.
This solves one of my two major pain points with #mastodon (the other one being the inability to follow tags in lists).
What are the alternatives to Cloudflare's free CDN plan (preferably not US-based)? So far, I've only found Gcore:
lets see how long it takes to get the next sd card fried
This setup is definitely just a temporary solution. I will improve things when I have more time.
Managed to install the headless OS, set up ssh and add my ssh key.
unfortunately I can't get more than this done on a weekday evening
